High Liberty Water Bill: Use WaterSmart Before You Guess
Hourly and daily usage
WaterSmart lets customers view near real-time water consumption down to hourly and daily usage.
Open WaterSmartLeak alerts
WaterSmart can send leak and high-usage alerts. These can identify a leaky toilet, cracked pipe or unexpected water use.
No leak credit
City procedures state customers are responsible for water usage that goes through the meter on the customer side, including leaks or line breaks.
| Bill symptom | Check first | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| Usage suddenly increased | Toilets, irrigation, hose bibs, pool filling, water softener, hidden pipe leak and WaterSmart hourly data. | Repair immediately; do not wait for a credit that may not be available. |
| Water use appears overnight | Running toilet, humidifier, water softener regeneration, leak in crawlspace or underground line. | Compare WaterSmart hourly pattern with fixture use. |
| Summer sewer bill seems high | New customers may not yet have a Winter Water Average. | Call 816-439-4460 to ask whether city-wide winter average basis is appropriate. |
| Bill total increased but water use normal | Solid waste charge, sewer rate, deposit, penalty, reconnect fee, past due balance or returned payment. | Separate all line items before disputing the meter. |
Wastewater Charges and Winter Water Average
Winter Water Average
Liberty bases domestic wastewater charges on a Winter Water Average to reduce the effect of spring, summer and fall outdoor uses such as lawn watering and pool filling.
New customer option
New customers whose summer water use does not reflect wastewater volume may call 816-439-4460 to ask about city-wide winter water average basis for current and future bills.

Use WaterSmart before disputing usage
Hourly/daily usage and leak alerts can show whether usage happened continuously, overnight, or during outdoor watering.
