Why Your Sand Springs Sewer Charge Can Change in March
Short answer: Sand Springs does not meter sewer the same way it meters water. Residential sewer volume is calculated from the average water usage during December, January and February. The City says the sewer volume is calculated in March and stays the same each month until the following March.
Winter months used
December, January and February set the winter average used for residential sewer volume.
March update
Beginning in March, your bill can show a new sewer consumption amount for the next 12 months.
Winter leak exception
If a winter leak raised the sewer average, the City FAQ says you can contact Utility Customer Service after the leak is fixed and usage returns to normal to request recalculation.
High Sand Springs Water Bill: Quick Leak and Usage Check
Indoor leak check
Running toilets, toilet flappers, faucets, water softeners, humidifiers and water heaters can raise usage without obvious signs.
Outdoor use check
The City FAQ says summer water use can increase from lawn watering, children at home, pool filling and irrigation systems.
1,000-gallon billing increments
Sand Springs bills water in 1,000-gallon increments. A bill can look the same for several months, then move when accumulated usage crosses the next 1,000-gallon level.
| What you see | Possible reason | What to do before calling |
|---|---|---|
| Usage jumped in summer | Lawn watering, pool filling, more people at home, irrigation zones or outdoor leaks. | Compare Click2Gov consumption summary with watering schedule and pool/irrigation activity. |
| Same usage repeated | Water is billed at 1,000-gallon increments, so steady use can appear the same for several months. | Review meter/consumption trend instead of only the rounded billed amount. |
| Sewer charge changed | March sewer average update based on December, January and February usage. | Check winter months for leaks, guests, dripping faucets or unusual usage. |
| Payment not showing | Mail/drop-box timing, Sunday maintenance, pending payment, wrong account or late processing. | Save confirmation, date, amount and call Customer Service at 918-246-2527 if urgent. |
Late Utility Bill, Missed Bill or Possible Disconnect
Responsibility rule: The City says payment of utility accounts is the responsibility of the individual or business listed on the account. Failure to receive a bill does not remove your responsibility to pay. If you do not receive a bill, contact Customer Service to determine account status.
Due date
The due date is printed on the bill. Payments not received by the due date immediately become subject to late charge and possibly disconnection.
Call before it escalates
Call 918-246-2527 if the bill is missing, late, disputed or near disconnect timing.
Have proof ready
Bring payment confirmation, bank/card record, account number and service address when asking for review.
Why Fire / EMS Fees Can Appear on a Sand Springs Water Bill
Mercy Care / EMS
City information says the COSS EMS / Mercy Care program is automatically billed through the water utility bill and customers do not have the option to opt out.
Residential EMS fee
The City lists Sand Springs residential accounts inside city limits at $3.25 and residential accounts outside city limits at $5.00.
Rural fire subscription
Households outside city limits but inside the area served by Sand Springs firefighters may see a rural fire subscription charge, with opt-out information handled through the City.

Water leaks
Contact Public Works at 918-246-2588 or use the City report-a-problem form for water leaks.
Refuse changes
Use Public Works for changing refuse services or extra refuse pickups. Billing questions still route to Customer Service.
After-hours emergency

Local Sand Springs Utility Tips That Save Time
Do not confuse stormwater with sewer
Stormwater is rain runoff moving through drains and ditches. Sewer is sanitary wastewater. Both can appear on a utility bill but they solve different city-system problems.
Check winter months before March
Because sewer volume is set from December, January and February usage, those months matter more than many customers realize.
Outdoor watering can be expensive fast
The City FAQ gives an example that a 21-foot round pool can hold about 13,500 gallons and irrigation turf zones can use about 12 gallons per minute.
New service needs timing
New service is normally connected the business day after the City receives and accepts the application. Plan ahead for move-in day.
